(Football news) Napoli who are having a brilliant season suffered a shock exit from the Coppa Italia as they got defeated by Cremonese 5-4 on penalties on Tuesday after their round-of-16 clash ended 2-2 after extra time. The Slovakian Stanislav Lobotka was the only player to miss a penalty for Napoli, as Cremonese, who are yet to win in Serie A this season and are bottom of the Serie A standings as they went through to the next round after 5 perfect spot kicks

Cremonese shocked everyone present at the Diego Maradona stadium as the away team took the lead through Charles Pickel after 18 minutes, but two goals in three minutes from Juan Jesus and Giovanni Simeone restored parity for the Serie A leaders and before half-time calmed Napoli’s nerves. While Napoli controlled the second half, Cremonese equalised in the 87th minute, with AS Roma loanee Felix Afena-Gyan sending a header into the top corner. Cremonese’s Leonardo Sernicola was sent off in extra time, but Napoli could not take advantage of the extra player and the game went to penalties where Cremonese ran out deserved winners. They will now face Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma in the quarterfinal on Feb. 1.

For AS Roma a second-half goal by forward Paulo Dybala secured a 1-0 win over Genoa in the Coppa Italia round of 16 and kept the capital club on course to win the competition for the 10th time in their recent history. In form substitute Dybala put Roma ahead in the 64th minute as the World Cup winner sent a powerful shot from a tight angle inside the far post after replacing midfielder Lorenzo Pellegrini at halftime. Fiorentina advanced to the quarterfinals with a 1-0 win over Sampdoria.
