(Cricket News) Mushfiqur Rahim, the seasoned batsman of the Bangladesh cricket team, will be absent from the highly-anticipated Asia Cup ‘Super Four’ clash against India on Friday. This absence is due to the extension of leave granted by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), allowing him to be with his recently born child and family.

The decision to extend Mushfiqur’s leave was made with full consideration of his personal circumstances. BCB Cricket Operations Chairman Mohammed Jalal Yunus expressed understanding, stating, “Mushfiqur has informed us that his wife is still in the process of recovering, and he needs to provide support by her side and be with their children at this crucial time. We fully empathize with his situation and have decided to grant him permission to skip the upcoming match against India.”

Initially, Mushfiqur had returned to Bangladesh to witness the birth of his second child and was expected to rejoin the team in Colombo for the pivotal encounter against India. However, taking into account the ongoing needs of his family, he has chosen to remain in Dhaka.

In the context of the Asia Cup tournament, Bangladesh has already faced disappointing results, having suffered consecutive losses in the ‘Super Four’ stage against Pakistan and Sri Lanka. As a result, their upcoming match against India holds no significant implications for the tournament standings. India, led by Rohit Sharma, has already secured their place in the final, rendering the Friday encounter inconsequential in terms of determining the finalists.
