(Cricket News) The veteran Bangladeshi keeper-batter Mushfiqur Rahim has been included in the 21-member Bangladesh Tigers Program. The camp by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is set to take place from 26th of May, Sunday.
Mushfiqur has retired from the shortest format of the game in 2022 and hence is not a part of Bangladesh’s squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup. The camp would be crucial for him as well in order to prepare well for the upcoming challenges.
The camp has been planned to be conducted across multiple venues which includes Dhaka, Sylhet and Chittagong. 21 Bangladeshi players will go under rigorous training and strategic planning sessions starting at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Sunday.
The pool of players selected for the camp includes a blend of some experienced players alongside promising talents of Bangladesh. It will provide the players with a wonderful opportunity for an overall development of techniques and mental as well as physical skills.
“Saifuddin is included in Tigers program and there were instructions that six players should be training with white ball (to keep them prepared for the ICC T20 World Cup if there is any replacement required). Yesterday I received an email and Saifuddin called and for family reason… his wife is expecting and he will not be available for the camp till June 10 as he requested for leave. We are preparing Khaled at the moment,” Ashraf told reporters at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Saturday.
BCB’s chief selector Gazi Ashraf Hossain informed that six cricketers will train with white-ball in Tigers training camp as possible stand-by for the upcoming T20 World Cup.
“We did not know about it (wife expecting child) earlier as he did not inform us anything about it like if anyone is injured or unavailable in that case we are informed beforehand. I believe if he had gone he would have fulfilled national duty and as this is secondary program (Tigers) so he requested for leave,” he said.
“We have chosen six players for white ball as standby of World Cup. We have chosen Anamul Haque while we have also picked Sohan (Nurul Hasan) since Jaker has a problem. We had kept Saifuddin and now there is Khaled while Saifuddin is expected to join in on June 10. There is Emon (Parvez Hossain), Nasum Ahmed and Mehedy Hasan. Last night Nasum gave us letter that he will not be available for first four to five days as he is suffering from jaundice,” he added.
