(Cricket news) Mooney joins fellow Western Australian representatives Avril Fahey, Nicole Bolton and Alana King among others on the Walk, which recognises every WA player to have played Test Cricket for Australia. Mooney became the 172nd woman to represent Australia at Test level in November 2017, when she was selected to make her debut alongside South Australians Tahlia McGrath and Amanda-Jade Wellington in an Ashes Test against England at North Sydney Oval.

The wicketkeeper batter earned an international debut in a T20I against India in January 2016, following an outstanding Women’s National Cricket League season for Queensland where she finished among the competition’s leading run-scorers. A prolific run-scorer capable of batting long periods, Mooney has represented her country on 172 occasions (71 ODI, 95 T20I, 6 Tests), compiling 5465 runs including 41 half-centuries and five centuries.

Domestically, the classy left-hander joined Western Australia ahead of the 2022-23 season after spending most of her professional cricketing career playing for Queensland, where she debuted as a 16-year-old in 2009. The versatile top-order batter has also starred during her time in the Women’s Big Bash League, plying her trade with the Brisbane Heat for five seasons before joining the Perth Scorchers for WBBL|06.

The 30-year-old continued her incredible record this past season, compiling 557 runs at 50.63, with her on-field brilliance seeing her selected in the Team of the Tournament for a fifth consecutive season. She sits comfortably as the all-time leading run scorer in the competition, with 4647 at 47.42 from 131 matches, remaining the only batter to pass 400 runs in every season of the tournament’s history.

Mooney and her international teammates are currently in Perth, as they prepare to take on South Africa in the CommBank Women’s Test at the WACA Ground, starting Thursday 15 February.
