(Football news) In order to provide Marsh enough time to heal before being reevaluated, a decision regarding his comeback to the IPL was postponed until after he returned to Perth on April 12 to confer with the medical staff of CA.
“I don’t think he’ll be coming back,” Ponting said. “There’s a certain cut off point with replacement players. Cricket Australia were keen to have him at home to start his recovery process and we sent him back as soon as we could.
“They’ve been managing his rehab for a couple of weeks now. I spoke to him the other day and it seems it’s taken a little longer than he first thought to get over it. I don’t think the T20 World Cup would be an issue.”
Marsh is expected to captain Australia at the 2024 T20 World Cup, which begins on June 1 in the USA and the West Indies.
This season, the all-rounder made just four appearances for Delhi; in three innings, he scored 61 runs, with a career-high 23. With an economy rate of 12.87, he took one wicket in eight overs of bowling.
The Capitals have lost Marsh’s services in the middle of the season for the second time in a row. He signed a huge contract of INR 6.5 crore, however in 2023 he only made nine appearances for them.
With three victories and five defeats, the Capitals are now at seventh in the standings. They have six games left and are still in the running for the playoffs.
