MICT defeats Pretoria Capitals, keeps playoffs hope alive

(Cricket news) In a high scoring encounter at Centurion, MI Cape Town registered a comfortable win over the Pretoria Capitals, defeating them by 34 runs. The win came at a very crucial stage for the MICT, it allowed them keeping their playoff hopes alive.

Electing to bat MICT were off to flyer scoring 64 runs in the first five overs before loosing Van der Dussen on the last ball of the fifth over. Rickelton played a blinder off an innings scoring 90 runs off just 45 deliveries, falling 10 short of a wonderful century.

After a struggled stay for Livingstone who scored 12 off 19 balls, it was Dewald Brevis (66 off 32) who came along with Rickelton to stitch a 64-run partnership in just 27 balls. Some late burst from Sam Curran and skipper Pollard helped MICT to a giant score of 248/4 in their 20 overs. Will Jacks was the only bowler for the Capitals who gave runs at an economy of less than 10, conceding just 24 runs from his 4 overs.

Chasing a massive 249, Will Jacks went berserk in the first over, blasting 23 off it. However, Sam Curran and Kagiso Rabada struck in the following two overs to remove both the openers. Capitals suffered a massive collapse as they were reduced to 42/6 inside the powerplay and it seemed that they will suffer a massive defeat, but Verreynne had different plans.

Despite of wickets falling from the other end, Verreynne kept on smashing the bowlers in his crazy effort and brought up a century in just 52 balls to take Capitals pass the 200 mark. However even his mind blowing effort did not prove to be good enough as his team suffered a 34-run defeat.

Brief scores: MI Cape Town 248/4 in 20 overs (Ryan Rickelton 90, Dewald Brevis 66*; Wayne Parnell 3/57) Pretoria Capitals 214/8 in 20 overs (Kyle Verreynne 116*; Nuwan Thushara 3/37)
