Messi is set to leave PSG next season

(Football news) Lionel Messi is all set to leave Paris Saint-Germain at the end of the season when his contract expires. Many sources speculated that Messi was unlikely to sign a new contract with the club but now it has been made official that both parties have agreed not to extend his stay with the defending French champions. The Argentina World Cup winner has been suspended by PSG for two weeks for missing training on Monday as he traveled to Saudi Arabia.

Messi flew to Saudi Arabia after their embarrassing defeat to Lorient last week as he went without asking again for permission which meant that he could not attend training on Monday. The incident has further complicated the relationship between the player and the club. The situation has created tension within the dressing room and some of the key players are very unhappy about the incident.

According to Sources, there was an agreement in principle between PSG and Messi before the World Cup but since then the situation has changed completely. On Wednesday there was more drama at the capital as several hundred PSG supporters gathered outside the club’s headquarters to express their anger at Messi, Neymar, and president Nasser al-Khelaifi. A small group of supporters protested outside Neymar’s home calling on him to leave the club.

Messi who recently celebrated his 35th birthday has failed to replicate his World Cup form with PSG and the elimination from the Champions League was the breaking point for the 7 time Ballon D’or winner. There is a question mark if Messi can still deliver in big Champions League matches. According to Fabrizio Romano, Saudi Arabia club Al Hilal are heavily interested in signing Messi and he is aware of interest from former club Barcelona and Major League Soccer club Inter Miami. Barcelona are also looking into the possibility of re-signing Messi but that will be very difficult.

“Paris Saint-Germain most strongly condemns the intolerable and insulting actions of a small group of individuals that took place on Wednesday ”, the Ligue 1 club said in a statement. “Whatever the differences of opinion, nothing justifies such actions. The Club gives its full support to its players, its staff and all those targeted by such shameful behaviour.”
