(Cricket News) The two former Delhi Capital teammates smashed centuries by using their experience playing at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Australia now has six points in their account, and their net run rate has gone up the roof after their 309 run victory against the Netherlands.

Australia won the toss, and they elected to bat first after looking at the first inning scores put up by teams in this World Cup. Australia were in a decent position after the first powerplay, scoring 66-1 after 10 overs. David Warner got two extra lives. The first one was when he was stranded in the non-strikers end, but he managed to make it in time after a poor throw by the fielder. The second time was when van der Merwe took a fantastic catch at cover, but a part of the ball was grazing the ball.

The Netherlands shrugged that off, and they picked up the wicket of Steve Smith the very next over. Van der Merwe took a diving low catch at point off Aryan Dutt’s bowling, and this time no part of the ball was touching the ground.

This did not slow down the momentum of Australia, as Labuschagne ended up scoring a fifty and David Warner scored his second hundred of the tournament. After Warner and Labuschagne were dismissed, the Maxwell fireworks started, and he smashed the Dutch bowlers all over the park. The ‘Big Show’ reached his fifty in 25 balls, and he took just 15 balls to reach his next fifty, scoring a hundred in 40 balls – the quickest century in the history of the ODI World Cup. Australia set a mammoth target of 399 in 50 overs for the Dutch to chase.

End of first inning: Australia 399-8; Glenn Maxwell: 106 (44); 104 (93); Logan Van Beek 10-74-0-4; Bas De Leede 10-115-0-2.

The chase in the second innings was an underwhelming one as the Netherlands were bundled out for just 90 runs. No batsman was able to cross fifty, and this has been a theme in the World Cup so far where the team batting first scores a mammoth target, but the team chasing does not put up a fight. Adam Zampa was the pick of the bowlers, picking up four wickets in three overs and giving just eight runs.

End of second innings: Netherlands 90-10; Vikramjit Singh 25 (25); Teja Nidamanuru 14 (18); Adam Zampa 3-8-0-4; Mitchell March 4-19-0-2.
