Marseille take on Spurs in their UCL return while Atletico face Porto

(Football news) Tottenham Hotspur's return to the promised land of the Champions League commences as they take on Ligue 1 giants Marseille. Spurs remained unbeaten in the Premier League after six matches and subsequently claimed their fourth win of the season against Fulham where Harry Kane and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg struck before Aleksandar Mitrovic's consolation goal saw Tottenham cement their third-placed position in the Premier League table. Harry Kane equalled Thierry Henry's record of 43 Premier League goals in London derbies, Kane's goal also saw him become the outright third top-scorer in the history of the Premier League and the 29-year-old striker will aim to spearhead another memorable European campaign for the Lilywhites.

Igor Tudor's side have made a brilliant start to their Ligue 1 season after winning four games on the bounce and are currently keeping pace with PSG at the top of the standings, although the Parisiens have a mammoth +20 goal difference which is forcing Marseille to settle for second in the standings. The visitors recently had continental run, as they made it all the way to the semi-finals of the Europa Conference League after finishing third in their Europa League group, but their hopes of glory were dashed by Feyenoord. Marseille have failed to make it out of the group stages in their last two appearances in the Champions League and the visitors have also suffered 12 defeats versus English opposition before they meet Tottenham for the very first time.

Tottenham Hotspur possible starting lineup:

Lloris; Romero, Lenglet, Dier; Emerson, Hojbjerg, Bentancur, Perisic; Richarlison, Kane, Son

Marseille possible starting lineup:

Lopez; Mbemba, Balerdi, Kolasinac; Clauss, Rongier, Guendouzi, Tavares; Payet, Gerson; Suarez

Atletico Madrid are looking to get their Champions League group-stage campaign off to the best possible start as they welcome Porto to Wanda Metropolitano. Atletico reached the final of the 2015-16 Champions League before making it to the semi-finals one year later but they have found it difficult to make an impression in the competition since then. The capital giants have made it to the quarter-finals in two of their last three UCL seasons including beating Manchester United in the round of 16 before losing to Manchester City in the quarterfinals.

Atletico will now play in Group B alongside Porto, Club Brugge and Bayer Leverkusen, and they will be the favourites to top the group even though all four sides have the capability of reaching the knockout rounds. Porto, who famously lifted the Champions League in the 2003-04 season under Jose Mourinho, won their 30th Portuguese title last season and this season have made a relatively strong start, picking up 12 points from five games to sit third in the Liga Portugal table.

Atletico Madrid possible starting lineup:

Grbic; Gimenez, Witsel, Reinildo; Molina, Llorente, Koke, De Paul, Carrasco; Morata, Felix

Porto possible starting lineup:

D Costa; Mario, Pepe, Marcano, Wendell; Otavio, Uribe, B Costa; Pepe; Evanilson, Taremi
