Asensio is set to leave Real Madrid and reportedly close to joining PSG next season

(Football news) Marco Asensio who has won 17 trophies with Real Madrid, is all set to leave the club this summer. The 27-year-old was offered a contract extension but he rejected a contract extension offer from Real Madrid and is in negotiations with a lot of big clubs in Europe but PSG are leading the race for his signature as they have a good relationship with his agent Jorge Mendes.

Asensio subsequently joined Real Madrid in 2014 from Mallorca as he spent two seasons on loan at Mallorca and Espanyol before he became a regular first teamer. He made his Real Madrid debut in the 2016 UEFA Super Cup where he announced himself to the Real Madrid fans by scoring a stunning goal in a 3-2 win over Sevilla. He then went on to win three Champions League titles, three La Liga titles, four Club World Cups, three European Super Cups, three Spanish Super Cups and one Copa del Rey with the Galacticos. He has won everything at the club level as he wants to find a new challenge somewhere else.

Asensio’s decision to leave Los Blancos comes after a season he had one of his best seasons where he scored 12 goals and assisted six. But he was not satisfied with his role in the team as he was being used as an impact player from the bench and he wanted more game time as well as a higher salary. He has had interest from several other clubs, including the likes of Manchester United and Arsenal in the Premier League but PSG are very keen on signing Asensio as they look to strengthen their squad for next season.

Asensio’s departure will mark the near-end of the most dominant Real Madrid team as they have lost several key players from that dream team, the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale, Sergio Ramos, Casemiro, Marcelo, and Raphael Varane all have departed the club. PSG are planning a complete overhaul of the squad which will leave the likes of Lionel Messi and Neymar leave as there are talks of replacing Christophe Galtier.

Asensio has emerged as a very interesting option because at 27 years old he is set to be reaching the best years of his career ahead of him. Asensio understood that his role at Madrid was not going to change next season, hence his decision to leave the Santiago Bernabeu on June 30. Asensio is an unbelievable player who knows how to win trophies at age 27 he has already won 17 trophies and losing such a big player for free is a huge blow for Real Madrid but it presents a great opportunity for other big clubs in Europe.
