Leon Marchand sets a new world record in the 400-meter IM

(Sports News) bn In the men’s 400-meter individual medley event at the World Aquatics Championships, 22-year-old French swimmer Leon achieved a remarkable feat by breaking Michael Phelps’ long-standing world record. He completed the race in an impressive time of four minutes and 2.50 seconds, surpassing Phelps’ previous record of 4:03.84 set at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Leon’s exceptional achievement occurred on the opening day of the championships, which span eight days of thrilling aquatic competitions.

The record that Leon Marchand broke was the final individual record held by Phelps, who retired after the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics.

Marchand, who swims for Arizona State, receives coaching from Bob Bowman, the same coach who led the American team at the world championships.

As the upcoming Paris Olympics draw near, Leon Marchand emerges as a promising hometown superstar. He is expected to be a strong contender and the favorite in the 200 IM event.
