Manchester United’s targeted player says he’s “very happy”

In response to reports that Manchester United may be interested in signing him during this summer's transfer window, Matheus Cunha stated he is "very happy" at Wolverhampton Wanderers

(Football news) The attacker made a permanent move to Molineux later in the year after joining Wolves on loan from Atletico Madrid in January 2023.

In 56 appearances in all competitions for his current team, Cunha has netted 16 goals and provided 9 assists, including 14 goals and 7 assists in 49 Premier League games.

After a stellar 2023–24 season in which he made 36 appearances and totaled 14 goals and 8 assists, there has been conjecture over the 25-year-old’s future.

Man United will move for a new forward this summer, and it has been claimed that Cunha has emerged as a target for the 20-time English champions.

Cunha “very happy” at Wolves amid Manchester United talk

However, the Brazilian has played down suggestions that he could leave Molineux this summer.

“My focus is on resting and making the most of my time with my family. I’m very happy at Wolves. The focus now is on having better seasons and helping the club. God willing, I’ll continue on this path,” he told Globo Esporte.

Manchester United were linked with Cunha during his time at Atletico, and the Red Devils are thought to have a long-term interest in the versatile attacker.

The South American featured in both Premier League games against Erik ten Hag’s side last season but could not prevent his side from losing home and away to the English giants.

Wolves are in a strong position when it comes to the forward’s future, as he has another three years left to run on his contract at Molineux.

Would Cunha be a good signing for Manchester United?

Despite being brought in as a centre-forward, Cunha finished last season in a deeper position, and he proved to be a serious threat arriving from deep areas.

Cunha’s running power, pace and strength made him a huge threat for Wolves, and he managed three goals and one assist in his last six Premier League appearances of the campaign.

Manchester United are currently lacking that power in the position between the midfield and attack, and it is not difficult to understand why the club are allegedly looking at the Wolves ace.

There have been suggestions that a deal could be done for around £60m, but the Red Devils would still need to sign a centre-forward this summer, in addition to a centre-back and a central midfielder, so it remains to be seen whether the funds are there for Cunha.

Wolves will also be determined to keep hold of one of their best players, with 19 goal contributions in 32 league matches during the 2023-24 campaign demonstrating his quality.
