Manchester United suffer injury blow as Mainoo is out of action

Kobbie Mainoo of Manchester United will be out "for a few weeks" due to a muscle injury he sustained during the team's most recent goalless draw with Aston Villa
Manchester

(Football news) Mainoo played 85 minutes of the contest with Villa before the international break, having been given the all-clear to feature after sitting out the Europa League fixture with Porto due to a slight muscular issue.

However, the 19-year-old pulled out of the England squad for their October internationals with an injury, and it has now been confirmed by Man United that the youngster is facing a spell on the sidelines.

Mainoo will be unavailable “for a few weeks,” according to a statement on the club’s official website, and his absence will be a huge blow for the 20-time English champions considering his importance to the side.

There was some good news at the club’s Carrington training complex, though, with Noussair Mazraoui, Alejandro Garnacho and Amad Diallo all training after recent scares.

Mazraoui, Garnacho, Amad trained on Thursday

Mazraoui’s return is a surprise considering that he recently underwent a minor heart procedure, and it remains to be seen whether the Morocco international is available for selection against Brentford on Saturday.

Garnacho, meanwhile, did not represent Argentina during the international break due to a recent knee problem, but the attacker was in training on Thursday and should be fine for the clash with the Bees.

Amad pulled out of the Ivory Coast squad for their October internationals due to illness, but the forward was also a part of Manchester United’s training session on Thursday, suggesting that he is also available this weekend.

Manuel Ugarte, though, had a recovery session after picking up a knock while representing Uruguay against Ecuador, with the summer arrival a doubt for the game with Thomas Frank’s side.

Manchester United confirm Malacia return

Tyrell Malacia is also now closing in on a return, with the Dutchman able to take part “in the first part of the group session” on Thursday, and there have been suggestions that the left-back could return before the end of the month.

Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw are currently on the sidelines and that will remain the case this weekend, with the former out for “a few weeks”, but the latter should be available in the not too distant future.

Mason Mount, meanwhile, is ‘continuing his recovery’ from the knock that he suffered against Tottenham Hotspur, and it seems unlikely that the playmaker will be available against Brentford.

Leny Yoro remains unavailable for selection, as he recovers from a fractured foot, although the Frenchman is believed to be on course to return to action before the end of the year.

Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag will provide a detailed update on his squad when he addresses the media on Friday ahead of Saturday’s Premier League contest with Brentford at Old Trafford.
