Manchester United set to face Brentford in the Premier League

As Brentford travels up north for a Premier League matchup, Manchester United, still smarting from their worst-ever Premier League season opening

(Football news) The Bees most recently managed to hold out for a 1-1 draw away to Nottingham Forest, while the Red Devils lost 3-2 to Galatasaray in their midweek Champions League match.

Even Man United’s star scorer Rasmus Hojlund acknowledged the team’s crisis after his two goals against Galatasaray in the Champions League were ineffective as a 10-man Red Devils team fell to a second straight home loss as a result of yet another string of mistakes.

With the score tied at 2-2 heading into the final 15 minutes, Andre Onana and Casemiro exhaled a sigh of relief when Mauro Icardi missed a penalty. The goalkeeper’s terrible pass went straight to Dries Mertens, who was fouled by Casemiro and given a second yellow card. However, the Argentine exorcised his 12-yard demons to delicately dink the ball over Onana a few minutes later.

The rumblings of a managerial change are gradually becoming louder, but Ten Hag is still thought to have the full support of the hierarchy despite being bottom of their Champions League group with no points to their name and languishing in 10th place in the Premier League table with only nine points from a possible 21 so far.

Man United’s demise this season has undoubtedly been influenced by off-field dramas and an unfortunate injury crisis, but defensive failures and dubious hiring decisions have also had a significant impact. Roy Hodgson outsmarted Ten Hag to lead Crystal Palace to a historic Old Trafford victory last weekend, where Joachim Andersen’s stunning goal was the game-winner.

Ten Hag may also set another unfavourable record this weekend, when Man United are at risk of dropping three straight Premier League games at the Theatre of Dreams for the first time ever. Five of the hosts’ last seven games overall, including three of their last four in the top division, have now ended in defeat.
