(Football news) After back-to-back defeats, Manchester United will now aim to get back to winning ways by securing three points against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League. Julen Lopetegui’s side are now safe in England’s top flight after a 1-0 win over Aston Villa last weekend while the Red Devils lost by the same scoreline to West Ham United. Questions have been raised after David de Goa committed another error, his fourth of the season in all competitions, which resulted in a defeat for Erik ten Hag’s side and the Spaniard will look to redeem himself this time around.
It’s clear for everyone to see that Manchester United are currently struggling to score goals but they will take on Wolves, who are the lowest scoring side in the Premier League. The Red Devils have a very good record at Old Trafford this season and are currently unbeaten in 27 games across all competitions since losing to Real Sociedad 1-0 in September. Erik ten Hag’s side need nine points from their remaining four games to secure Champions League football, which means the match against Wolves is a must win fixture.
In team news for Manchester United, Marcus Rashford is a “big doubt” due to a leg injury while Lisandro Martinez (foot), Phil Jones (knee), Tom Heaton (ankle), Donny van de Beek (knee) and Scott McTominay (knock) are all unavailable. However, Raphael Varane has made rapid recovery and could feature in some capacity. In Rashford’s absence, Ten Hag is expected to go for Garnacho or Jadon Sancho in a wide position while Martial or Weghorst could feature up front.
As for Wolves, Boubacar Traore remains doubtful while Chiquinho and Sasa Kalajdzic remain unavailable due to long term knee injuries. Toti is expected to start at left back ahead of Rayan Ait-Nouri and Hugo Bueno while Raul Jimenez is expected to be on the bench. With survival now confirmed, Lopetegui might give fringe players an opportunity which means Diego Costa could potentially feature in the starting lineup.
Manchester United possible starting lineup:
De Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Varane, Lindelof, Shaw; Casemiro, Eriksen; Antony, Fernandes, Sancho; Martial
Wolverhampton Wanderers possible starting lineup:
