Manchester United face West Ham in a must win game to keep their CL hopes alive

Manchester United face West Ham in a crucial encounter for both teams

(Football news) Both the teams are in need of points but for different reasons as Manchester United face West Ham United on Sunday. United are currently fourth but are only four points clear of fifth-placed Liverpool, while West Ham are 15th but are only four points clear of the relegation zone. West Ham got seven points from their three league games against Fulham, Arsenal and Bournemouth but three straight losses to Liverpool, Crystal Palace and Manchester City have pulled them firmly back into the relegation scrap.

David Moyes’s side have a difficult fixtures list and will face Man United (H), Brentford (A), Leeds United (H) and Leicester City (A) in their final four league games of the season, but there one eye will also be in the semi-finals of the Europa Conference League, when they face AZ Alkmaar for the first leg next Thursday. West Ham have only picked up 22 points from their 17 home games this season but Man United on the other hand have lost seven times away from home this season as they lost to Brighton & Hove Albion on Thursday.

Man United were going to get a point against Brighton at the Amex, but the Seagulls won courtesy of Alexis Mac Allister spot kick in the 99th minute to spark wild celebrations. Erik ten Hag’s side are still in pole position to secure a top-four spot four points clear of fifth-placed Liverpool with a game in hand, but another defeat would mean that Liverpool can cut the gap to one point on Saturday, with Liverpool facing Brentford at Anfield.

United have a knack of bouncing back from poor results, and the fans will be demanding a response at the London Stadium. United’s last four fixtures are against Wolverhampton Wanderers (H), Bournemouth (A), Chelsea (H) and Fulham (H) as on paper they look like winnable fixtures. Their away form in the league is a real concern as they have won just one of their last five matches. The 20-time champions have won their last three matches against West Ham this season, beating them 1-0 at Old Trafford in October before a 3-1 win in the FA Cup at the start of March.
