(Football news) Bayern Munich defeated Erik ten Hag’s team 1-0 at Old Trafford on Tuesday night, capping a disastrous campaign for the team.

Man United will not even have the opportunity to qualify for the Europa League in the upcoming year, as their performance put them at the bottom of the section.

The record number of goals conceded by an English club in the competition’s history is 15, which they gave up in their six group games.

Galatasaray finished one point ahead of United to secure a position in the Europa League, while Copenhagen secured second place to guarantee their participation in the round of 16 for just the second time in their history.

In the group stage, only four clubs have scored more goals than the Red Devils, but it just goes to highlight how weak their defence has been all season.

United only managed four points from their six group matches, drawing three times with Galatasaray in Istanbul and defeating Copenhagen 1-0 at home.

Their only clean sheet came from a victory over Copenhagen, and even that came in tight circumstances as the Danish team missed a penalty kick with the final kick of the match.

On the fourth matchday, Jacob Neestrup’s team overcame a 2-0 deficit to win 4-3 at Parken Stadium, making up for earlier loss.

In their losses to Bayern and Gala in the first two matchdays, Man United had already given up seven goals before their double header against Copenhagen.

Two goals in the closing minutes from Casemiro made a 4-3 loss at the Allianz Arena seem manageable, but United’s most painful loss was on matchday two at home against Gala.

Casemiro’s dismissal helped spark a Gala comeback after the Turks had led 2-1 with 20 minutes remaining. Despite missing a penalty, the Turks prevailed at Old Trafford.

On matchday five, the Turkish team mounted another comeback, this time from a 2-0 deficit, to draw 3-3 at the Ali Sami Yen Stadium, a result that all but sealed United’s fate due to two blatant Andre Onana blunders.

With just five shots in the full 90 minutes of play, Ten Hag’s team was eliminated from the competition in their last match, a 1-0 loss to Bayern at home. However, the result at Old Trafford was ultimately meaningless due to Copenhagen’s victory over Galatasaray.
