Manchester City will play Luton in FA Cup

When Luton Town hosts Manchester City at Kenilworth Road on Tuesday night in the FA Cup fifth round, they will be attempting to achieve one of their greatest ever outcomes

(Football news) The home team will go into the match fresh from a 4-1 loss to Liverpool in the Premier League last Wednesday, while Manchester City advanced in their championship defense with a 1-0 victory against Bournemouth on Saturday.

Luton has won over many fans with their brand of football this year and their potential to upset the big clubs, particularly at home. However, the Hatters come into this game coming off three straight Premier League defeats to Manchester United, Sheffield United, and Liverpool.

The team led by Rob Edwards is now in 18th place in the Premier League standings, one point behind Everton in 17th. They will play their next league game at home against Aston Villa the following weekend.

Luton’s immediate focus is on the FA Cup, though, and they have claimed two impressive away wins in the competition so far this season, beating Bolton Wanderers 2-1 in the third round before overcoming Everton by the same scoreline in the fourth round at the end of last month.

The Hatters have never won the FA Cup, but they famously reached the final of the 1958-59 competition, suffering a 2-1 defeat to Nottingham Forest in the final.

Luton have already lost to Manchester City at Kenilworth Road this season, with the English champions running out 2-1 winners in the Premier League on December 10, but they needed to come from behind after Elijah Adebayo had made the breakthrough in the closing stages of the first period.

The two teams have not faced each other in the FA Cup since Manchester City defeated the Pirates 1-0 at Maine Road in January 1969. Now, the Citizens are trying to advance to the tournament’s quarterfinals.

Following their 5-0 triumph over Huddersfield Town in the competition’s third round on January 7 and their 1-0 success over Tottenham Hotspur away from home on January 26, Pep Guardiola’s team is now getting ready to face Luton, another Premier League team.
