(Football news) Defending champions Real Madrid were taught a hard lesson by Manchester City, who defeated Los Blancos’ 4-0 at the Etihad Stadium in the second leg of the Champions League semi-final. Two goals from Bernardo Silva in the first half combined with Eder Militao’s own goal and Julian Alvarez’s stoppage time finish reflected just how big the gap in quality is between the two sides.

Manchester City remain on course for a treble this season and are currently unbeaten in 23 games, winning 15 consecutive matches at the Etihad Stadium. Pep Guardiola’s side will now take on Inter Milan in the Champions League final in Istanbul on June 10th and will be hoping to secure their first European Cup in their history. In team news, Pep Guardiola named an unchanged lineup from the team that drew the first leg with Riyad Mahrez, Phil Foden and Julian Alvarez on the bench. As for Real Madrid, Ancelotti named one change with Eder Militao replacing Antonio Rudiger.

Speaking after the match, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola said “Considering the opponent, Real Madrid in the semi-final of the Champions League. We had to perform well and we did, especially in the first half. I had the feeling these last few days that we had a mix of calm and tension. After 10 or 15 minutes, I had the feeling that all the pain of last season was there today. It was so tough last season. We had to swallow everything.”
