Man United defender Eric Bailly joins Olympique Marseille on loan

(Football news) Marseille have reached a full agreement with Manchester United for the signing of Ivory Coast international Eric Bailly on loan for the rest of the season. According to Fabrizio Romano, Eric Bailly will now be on his way to France and the update also mentions that the Ivorian and his agents are still in talks over his personal terms, following which a deal can be made official.

Bailly has been with Manchester United since 2016 but has never been able to cement a regular first-team position at Old Trafford. The 28-year-old has played a little over 100 games for the Red Devils despite being at the club for more than six years now. Last season, he made only seven appearances as he sustained an injury midway through the season. Even though he played really well in the pre-season, it was always likely that he would be departing Old Trafford in search for some regular football. Several clubs, including the likes of AS Roma, coached by former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho have been linked with the player.

The Ligue 1 giants are looking like the favourites to sign Bailly despite many clubs being linked to him. Marseille seek to add more quality and experience to their roster ahead of a run in the UEFA Champions League this season. Despite having brought in the likes of Chancel Mbemba from Porto and Isaak Toure, Marseille remain intent on adding another experienced centre-half before the window closes. The Ligue 1 club are now close to landing Bailly from Manchester United after reaching an agreement with Manchester United for an initial loan with an obligation to make the move permanent for around £10m should they qualify for the UEFA Champions League again. Given Bailly’s desire to leave, finalising the wages and other aspects of his stay in France should be straight forward.
