Manchester United unveil new signing Casemiro at Old Trafford

(Football news) Manchester United unveiled their brand new signing Carlos Henrique Casemiro, known as Casemiro in front of the Old Trafford crowd before their match against Liverpool. The Brazilian midfielder has been signed by the club for a fee of £60m, plus £10m in add-ons and the player has signed a four year contract with an option to extend a further year. The player bid an emotional farewell to Real Madrid on Monday where he won five Champions League trophies.

Speaking on Manchester United’s official website, Casemiro said “I have worked with many great managers in my career and, having met with Erik and heard his ideas, I can't wait to work closely with him, his staff and my new team-mates in the coming years.” Erik ten Hag told Sky Sports “He is the cement between the stones. That's what we are looking for in the summer. We've found him and I am really happy."

There has been plenty of speculation about Casemiro’s decision to leave Real Madrid for Manchester United as the player won the Champions League at Real Madrid last season but won’t even play in the competition this time around as his new club has failed to qualify. However, the 30 year old insisted that his decision to join Manchester United is not motivated by money by saying “If it was about money I would have left four or five years ago," he said. "Those people who think that are wrong, they don't know me at all. The club has always treated me very well. It's my decision, my path."

Manchester United have desperately needed a defensive midfielder for a few years now and the 30 year old will bring quality to the current squad that none of the other players possess. This might mean that the midfield partnership of Fred and McTominay will finally come to an end as Ten Hag is expected to go for a midfield trio of Bruno Fernandes, Christian Eriksen and Casemiro. The Brazilian will bring a wealth of experience to this side, having played over 300 matches for Real Madrid and winning a number of trophies at the Spanish club.
