Keshav Maharaj joins Fortune Barishal for a stint at the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL)

(Cricket news) The South African left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj has been signed by Fortune Barishal for the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League. Maharaj has never been a part of the BPL before and this will be his first time featuring in the league.

The star Proteas spinner is expected to arrive in Chattogram on February 13, just 1 day before Barishal’s game against Durdanto Dhaka. He will join his new team in the BPL straight after the SA20 finals, where his team Super Giants faced a defeat in the Finals.

The South Africa’s test team is currently in New Zealand, where a second string team, full of inexperienced players are playing a test series against New Zealand. All the players from South Africa’s regular squad was busy with the SA20 and hence were not a part of the New Zealand tour.

Keshav Maharaj will now come to the BPL ,a day before South Africa begin the second Test against New Zealand in Hamilton. The Proteas suffered a heavy defeat in the first test of the series and are currently trailing 0-1. Maharaj, however wouldn’t have been available for the Hamilton Test anyway, as Cricket South Africa (CSA) policy stipulates players need a week to acclimatize to venue conditions.

Fortune Barishal have won 4 out of their 8 games in the BPL and are currently at the 4th place in the points table. The signing of an experienced Maharaj could well help the team end the tournament on a high and lifting the title.
