(Tennis news) 17 in the world In a somewhat lopsided fourth-round clash, Keys defeated third-seeded Jessica Pegula, a higher-ranked compatriot. The 2017 finalist exploded out of the gate, gaining a 4-1 double-break advantage. Keys outshone Pegula with 21 victories to take the opening match with just one game lost.

The 28-year-old rolled through the following three games to go to her third Flushing Meadows quarterfinal after an early exchange of breaks. After defeating Caroline Garcia in Dubai, Keys’ victory in 61 minutes was her second top-5 triumph of the year.

As a result, Keys moved to 32-11 on the year and 30-11 at Flushing Meadows. It was her first victory over Pegula in two meetings. She defeated Liudmila Samsonova, Yanina Wickmayer, and Arantxa Rus earlier this week.

The unseeded Payton Sterns presented a much tougher challenge for ninth-ranked Vondrousova. Sterns got revenge after blowing a 4-1 lead by winning the first game in a tiebreak.

However, Vondrousova only lost five games over the course of the following two sets, breaking Sterns seven times in total, to advance to her maiden US Open quarterfinal. Without dropping a set, Vondrousova defeated Han Na-Lae, Martina Trevisan, and Ekaterina Alexandrova earlier this week. Currently in 2023, she is 37-12 and 9-4 at Flushing Meadows.

Head-to-Head

The two have never faced off against each other, hence their head-to-head record is 0-0.

Predictions

Keys and Vondrousova both enjoy smothering opponents from the baseline. Both are capable of serving numerous aces, hitting hard from either flank, and moving swiftly.

The advantage, however, belongs to Vondrousova because to her superior recent performance, particularly at the Majors, where she has won her previous 11 games. Keys has more Grand Slam experience, but he hasn’t yet achieved victory.

With her left-handed serves and more reliable hitting, Vondsrouva might make things difficult for Keys despite the fact that both women have only lost one set in four matches. Keys will be encouraged by her convincing victory over the strong Pegula, but Vondrousova is the favourite to win.

Madison Keys to win in 3 sets.
