(Football news) Luke Shaw is set to sign a new four-year contract with Manchester United. His current contract expires in 2024 and positive talks took place resulting in the England international being at United until at least 2027. Since joining Manchester United in 2014 from Southampton, Shaw has become a mainstay in United’s defence. He has gone on to make 249 appearances during his nine years at the club where has scored four goals and provided 28 assists.

The defender has won four trophies which include two League Cups, the Community Shield, FA Cup and the Europa League. Shaw has become an integral part of the England national team, as he has earned 29 international caps. The left-back joined Manchester United for a fee of £30 million from Southampton and he has experienced his fair share of ups and downs at Old Trafford, suffering a horrific double leg break in his second season for United.

After a long struggle to return to fitness, Shaw was not given opportunities by Jose Mourinho during his three-year tenure at the club. Since then he has become an integral cog in the side for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Erik ten Hag. He is becoming one of the best full-backs in world football as United had triggered his 12-month clause earlier this year, which meant that his previous deal was set to end this year itself.

Ten Hag refused to comment on the news when he was questioned in a press conference on Friday but now the club have officially announced his contract extension till 2027 with a further year option. Manchester United will now turn their attention towards giving long term contracts with Marcus Rashford and David De Gea. Manchester United are keen to negotiate a lower salary for the Spanish keeper as he is on £375,000-a-week currently but the goalkeeper will need to take a pay cut if he wants to stay at the club.
