New Delhi, Sept. 17, 2021 (Sports news) Under Armour athlete Sufiya Khan, who holds a world record for long distance running, is once again ready to push her limits with her upcoming Ultra marathon ‘Himalayan Ultra Run Expedition’. Aiming to cover a distance of 480 km in less than 130 hours, amidst the difficulties of ruthless terrains and conditions, Sufiya will be the first female marathon runner in the world to attempt the run from Manali to Leh. The Himalayan Ultra Run Expedition is scheduled from 25th Sep to 30th Sep 2021 and will begin at an altitude of 2000m, reaching up to 5400m altitude and total 9000 m elevation gain throughout the expedition with temperature dipping between minus 5 to minus 10 degrees and oxygen levels getting less than 50 percent on mountain passes. Themed ‘Push Your Limits’, with this run both, Sufiya and Under Armour aim to encourage athletes to expand their limits, move out of their comfort zone and take up challenging tasks in their fitness journey.
From everyday athletes to the world’s best, Under Armour has been committed to equipping focused performers to strive for success. After supporting Sufiya to power through her record breaking Kashmir to Kanyakumari run and Indian Golden Quadrilateral Run Under Armour continues to contribute to Sufiya’s constant pursuit to move beyond the ordinary and push her limits with her upcoming Manali to Leh run.
Gearing for her next big feat, Sufiya Khan said, “I see every challenge as an opportunity for me to prepare myself for the next one. This run is one of the most challenging ones that I will attempt in my life and I am both excited and nervous about it. I am honoured to be supported by a brand like Under Armour and draw a great deal of inspiration from their philosophies. The brand’s core values resonate with my own and pushes me to give in my very best. I believe together we can push the limits of human potential and further encourage and motivate every budding athlete to push their boundaries and step out of their comfort zones.”
In 2020 Sufiya Khan hit the road for her most ambitious run. She aimed to run along with the Golden Quadrilateral highway network across India: a total length of about 6,002 km. After facing some disappointment in her first attempt due to the Covid pandemic, Sufiya completed the marathon in 110 days, 23 hours and 24 minutes, in her second attempt. Sufiya credits a big part of her success to wearing the correct gear provided by Under Armour. She believes it has not only enhanced her performance but also safeguarded her from injuries along the way.
