Liverpool will play Brentford in the Premier League

When Liverpool and Brentford square off in Sunday's Premier League match at Anfield, they have a lot to live up to in the final third after losing their last two meetings 3-2
Liverpool

(Football news) The Reds were defeated by Toulouse in an exciting Europa League match on Thursday night, with five goals, while last weekend, the London rivals, West Ham United, were destroyed by the equally thrilling Bees.

With two games remaining at Toulouse’s Stadium Municipal, Liverpool were eliminated from the Europa League with two games to spare. It was not the first time this season that Alexis Mac Allister was the victim of a controversial officiating call.

After Union SG was thrashed by LASK Linz, Liverpool’s only task was to repeat their victory over the Coupe de France winners at Anfield to guarantee first place in Group E. However, Aron Donnum, Thijs Dallinga, and Frank Magri managed to find a way past Caoimhin Kelleher’s net, and Jurgen Klopp’s team lost this time around.

The Reds were given hope by goals from Cristian Casseres Jr. and Diogo Jota, but after Jarell Quansah scored a last-gasp equalizer, play was stopped for a handball against Mac Allister. The Reds’ euphoria quickly gave way to sadness as they were sent to their first Europa League defeat of the year.

As he did in the 1-1 draw with Luton Town last weekend, when a late Luis Diaz intervention saved a point from certain defeat, Klopp questioned the decision to disallow Quansah’s first goal for Liverpool. However, the Reds manager acknowledged that his team’s performance was far from satisfactory.

For the third-placed Reds, though, who have a perfect record of eight victories from their eight home games in all competitions this season, scoring multiple goals on each occasion and shipping a league-low two in the top flight, a return to Anfield comforts is just what the doctor ordered.

Aiming for Europa League or Europa Conference League qualifying, Brentford has put a terrible September behind them as they enjoy a winning run of three games. Prior to this, they had gone six games without a victory in any competition.

Brentford’s defense let them down in a London derby against West Ham at the Gtech Community Stadium after they easily defeated Burnley and Chelsea by an aggregate score of 5-0. Mohammed Kudus and Jarrod Bowen denied Neal Maupay, who had scored his first goal in thirty-four games.
