Liverpool will face Everton in the Premier League

As the international break comes to a conclusion with a thrilling Premier League Merseyside derby, Liverpool and Everton of Merseyside rekindle their animosity at Anfield

(Football news) Despite only taking one of the remaining six available points, Jurgen Klopp’s fourth-placed team is now 12 places and 11 points ahead of the Toffees in the emerging table.

The impact from Liverpool’s agonising and unfair loss to Tottenham Hotspur overshadowed their preparations for a trip to the Amex Stadium two weekends ago, but an easy victory against Union SG in the Europa League gave the Kop a much-needed boost.

On October 8, however, the Reds were overwhelmed by Brighton & Hove Albion at the start of the game. Simon Adingra broke the deadlock by taking advantage of a mix-up between Virgil van Dijk and Alexis Mac Allister, but Mohamed Salah did what he does best from inside the penalty area to swing the game in the visitors’ favor.

But the Reds’ set-piece shortcomings ultimately proved to be costly as Lewis Dunk headed home Solly March’s free kick to deny Liverpool an instant chance to get back to winning ways in the premier league, sending them to fourth place in the standings.

However, because Klopp’s team has a better goal differential than both Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal, they will be the ones to take first place if they win the Merseyside bragging rights on Saturday lunchtime. The Reds return to base having scored in each of their previous 21 competitive games.

The walls of the Anfield fortress are still standing strong, too. After five home games this season, Klopp’s team has won five times, scoring two goals or more each time, and they have not lost at home in the Premier League this year.

Only two teams in the entire division have a lower conversion rate than Everton’s 6.77% in the premier league this season, but Sean Dyche’s team hasn’t had any trouble creating these opportunities and used a clinical edge to prolong Bournemouth’s suffering two weeks ago.

The Toffees defeated their fellow bottom contenders 3-0, driven by goals from James Garner in the first half, Jack Harrison in the second, and Abdoulaye Doucoure in the third. This victory came just seven days after the Goodison Park supporters were subjected to a humiliating 2-1 defeat at the hands of freshly promoted Luton Town.

The international break came at an extremely inconvenient time for Everton, who are currently hovering just above the dotted line in 16th place. With three wins from their last four games in all tournaments, they have plenty to be proud of, as well as crushing top-half players Aston Villa and Brentford.

The resurrected visitors, who had lost their first three games of the season without scoring, have now broken through the opposition’s defence in six of their last seven games and scored two goals or more in each of their last four away games—albeit without managing to keep a clean sheet at the other end.

After failing to score in their first three games of the season, the revitalised visitors have now breached the defence in six of their last seven games and scored two goals or more in each of their last four away games, despite not being able to keep a clean sheet at the other end.

There have been 293 Merseyside derbies between the two fierce rivals, and as recently as February 2021, Everton emerged victorious from Anfield, winning 2-0 in private. However, since supporters started to re-enter the stadium, Liverpool has won each of their last two home games by the same score.
