(Football news) Dutch club PSV Eindhoven have announced that they have reached an agreement with Liverpool for the transfer of 23 year old Cody Gakpo. The player scored three goals in five appearances for the Netherlands at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and was heavily linked with a move to Manchester United with Gakpo and Ten Hag sharing the same agent. The Red Devils needed to sign a forward in January after Cristiano Ronaldo’s contract was terminated but it was Liverpool who acted swiftly, sealing the transfer due to long term injuries to Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota.
“PSV and LFC have reached an agreement on the proposed transfer of Cody Gakpo. The 23-year-old attacker will leave for England imminently, where he will be subjected to the necessary formalities ahead of the completion of the transfer.”

Jurgen Klopp had hinted at potential signings in the January transfer window after Colombia international Luis Diaz injured his knee during a midseason training break in Dubai. Gakpo was also linked to Leeds United and Southampton in the summer transfer window while Manchester United looked like the inevitable destination. However, just like last June when the Red Devils were beaten to the signing of Darwin Nunez by Liverpool, Jurgen Klopp’s side have done it once again and will announce their new signing on January 1st.
