(Football news) Argentina head coach Lionel Scaloni has confirmed that he is set to sign a contract extension with the World champions. Scaloni, along with his namesake Lionel Messi led La Albiceleste to glory in dramatic style. Glory in the Middle East sealed a first ever World Cup for Messi, and Argentina’s first World Cup title since 1986, after they lost out in the 1990 and 2014 finals.

Scaloni’s rise from relative unknown, after taking charge of Argentina in 2018 and since then he has been extraordinary for a Santa Fe-born coach. He is now the first Argentina manager to win a Copa America and World Cup title in the same time window with his position stronger than ever right now. His current deal expires at the end of 2024 but he is to sign a contract extension at least till 2026 World Cup in the USA, Mexico and Canada. He is ready to commit beyond that date also as extension talks continue in Buenos Aires continued 

The 44-year-old Argentine has been associated with Argentina since 2017. He was first an assistant to Jorge Sampaoli and when Sampaoli left in 2018, Scaloni took charge of the national team. Under his leadership, Argentine fans haven’t looked back as they won the 2021 America’s Cup and the 2022 World Cup. Lionel Scaloni is on the verge of becoming one of the best Argentine coaches and he will hope to continue his legacy by leading his nation to the 2024 Copa America and the 2026 World Cup in North America.

“I am in a dream place for any Argentine,” Lionel Scaloni after winning the World Cup “We are on it (the contract). I am in an incredible place after winning the World Cup.”
