Leicester City get their 2nd win of the season against Leeds United

(Football news) Leicester City finally got their season on the move after they lifted themselves off the bottom of the Premier League table with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Leeds United as the visitors extended their winless run for a seventh straight game. Leicester's second win of the season was secured in the 35th minute as Robin Koch's own goal and Harvey Barnes's sweeping finish put the home side in command. Leeds in the second half ran out of steam with Leicester goalkeeper Danny Ward keeping their only shot on target in the match out when he blocked Liam Cooper's effort on goal.

Leicester saw off the match with ease to move above relegation threatened Nottingham Forest into 19th on eight points and subsequently move one point behind Leeds in 16th place in the table as Jesse Marsch's Yorkshire side moved closer to the relegation zone after making a positive start to the season. The pressure has been mounting on both managers in recent weeks after both the teams suffered disappointing starts to the season but Leicester were handed a boost for Leeds' tie as they welcomed striker Jamie Vardy back into the side, with the veteran striker still looking for his first goal of the season.

Although Vardy did play a part in the build-up to the opener, Koch diverted Dennis Praet's low cross into his own net. Leeds did well and created several chances to get back on level terms as Luis Sinisterra went closest with a curling effort that hit the crossbar. But Harvey Barnes added a second, finishing off a beautiful counter attack from Leicester. The fact that after that goal Leeds never looked like getting back into the contest as it will be the most frustrating for Marsch and the visitors slipped to a third-straight loss. Leeds have now failed to win any of their opening five away league games of the season for the first time since 1998-99, with the tally of one point from their 5 away leagues matches being the lowest since 1983-84.

"When you are down there, every point is important," Leicester midfielder Youri Tielemans said after the match. "We kept the ball really well, attacked them well, and that is what we really needed. Every good performance gives us confidence, and we can build on this now."

"In both boxes we are not helping ourselves, but right now we have to find ways to stop the bleeding," Marsch said. "We have to fight and be ready for what is to come. I am here and I am doing everything I can to help this team."
