(Football news) The Premier League side Leeds United have reached an agreement for RB Salzburg star Maximilian Wober in the January transfer window. Leeds enjoyed a fruitful summer where they bought several players. Despite starting well this season they were unable to sustain their pace and are now stuck into the relegation dogfight.

Jesse Marsch’s side are only four points off the bottom of the league but they do have a match in hand over the teams. Not only are Leeds struggling to score goals but are also finding it difficult to keep clean sheets as they have let in 29 goals in the league this season in 16 matches so far. Only four more teams have allowed more goals as the quartet of Diego Llorente, Robin Koch, Liam Cooper and Patrick Struijk are struggling to step up and bringing in another player could prove to be valuable..

It appears that Wober is set for a medical to complete his £14m move to Elland Road. Marsch is familiar with the defender as he had signed him for Salzburg while at the club’s helm in 2019. The Austrian defender is good in the air and technically very proficient and the 24-year-old has all the tools in his locker to be a hit amongst the Elland Road fans. He is, however, prone to sometimes switching off, and that is not something a team embroiled in a relegation dogfight wants to see in their players. Leeds will hope that Wober can be the defensive lynchpin that they have lacked this campaign and help turn their season around.

His familiarity with Marsch’s playing style is an added bonus, meaning he will not need much time to adapt to the setup at Leeds. Marsch will need more than just Wober to address his side’s shortcomings as the club could add a striker or two to the roster which will make up for Patrick Bamford’s injury troubles and Rodrigo’s drought in front of the goal. While Wober is a good addition at one end of the team, it would be too much to ask him to turn the side’s fortunes around.
