Karnataka vs Tamil Nadu ends in a thrilling draw

(Cricket News) The 6th round of the Ranji Trophy concluded yesterday. An Elite group C match between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu ended in a thrilling draw, with only 17 runs to win for Tamil Nadu with just two wickets remaining.

Tamil Nadu ended the 3rd day at 36/1, needing 319 runs to win on the final day. After a decent start to the last day of the match, the Tamil Nadu batting line-up faltered loosing some quick wickets and were reduced to 199/5. The senior pro Vijay Shankar then came out to bat for the home team and played a wonderful innings of 60 from just 107 balls.

Shankar along with Baba Indrajith stitched a crucial 125-run stand and were well in course to make a game out for their team. However Tamil Nadu’s hopes took a back seat when Indrajith got run out just 2 runs short of a well deserved century. Subsequentlly Vijay Shankar was dismissed in the following over to worsen the situation for the home side.

Skipper Sai Kishore and Ajith Ram however made sure that the match does not slip out of hands for hosts and secured a thrilling draw for their team. Pradosh Paul (74), also stroked a very good half-century for his side in the chase.

With this result, Karnataka has strengthened its position at the top of the table while Tamil Nadu remain in the second spot.
