(Cricket News) Tim Southee will captain New Zealand for the remainder of the match. Following the tenth over, Williamson was seen being attended to by the physiotherapist, clutching his right hamstring. He was batting on 26 off 15, with three fours and a six.
During the drinks break, he then trudged off with Daryl Mitchell coming out to bat in his place. This is the second Twenty20 International series between Pakistan and New Zealand that Williamson was injured in.
Williamson suffered a hamstring strain during a run in the tenth over, according to a statement released by New Zealand Cricket. Williamson has had a string of injuries recently, having torn his ACL in the opening IPL 2023 match and recovering in time to play in the ODI World Cup in India six months later. He also broke his thumb during the World Cup match against Bangladesh, which forced him to miss four more games before playing in the match against Pakistan.
Williamson was supposed to play in four of the five T20I series against Pakistan, missing the third match in Dunedin. He was chosen in the New Zealand team for the T20I series against Bangladesh last month before being pulled on “medical advice.”
