(Cricket News) Jay Shah has been appointed as the president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) for the third consecutive year, as announced on Wednesday. The extension of Jay Shah’s term was proposed by Shammi Silva, the president of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), for the second time, and the nomination received unanimous support from all ACC members, according to a press release from ACC.

Having initially assumed the role of ACC president in January 2021, Jay Shah, who also serves as the Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), expressed his gratitude for the continued trust placed in him. He emphasized the importance of remaining dedicated to the comprehensive development of the sport, with a particular focus on regions where cricket is still in its early stages. Shah stated, “The ACC is committed to nurturing cricket across Asia.”

Under Jay Shah’s leadership, the ACC organized two Asia Cups for senior men’s teams in 2022 (T20 format) and 2023 (ODI format), along with a U-19 Asia Cup in the 2023/24 season (50-over format). The press release highlighted that Shah’s tenure has actively promoted cricket in emerging nations across the continent, including Afghanistan, Bhutan, Cambodia, China, Nepal, Thailand, Hong Kong, Iran, Malaysia, Myanmar, UAE, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, and others.

Pankaj Khimji, Chairman of Oman Cricket and Vice President of the ACC, credited Jay Shah for fostering collaboration among Member Boards and significantly enhancing the financial and commercial standing of the ACC. The press release quoted Khimji as saying, “Stakeholders see value in investing in tournaments that the ACC conducts, and I credit him for this major transformation, which will further fuel the growth of the game in the region.” President of the Bangladesh Cricket Board, Nazmul Hassan, and Chairman of the Afghanistan Cricket Board, Mirwais Ashraf, also congratulated and expressed their satisfaction with Jay Shah’s reappointment.
