Rizvan Javed banned by ICC for 17.5 years over corruption charges

(Cricket News) Rizvan Javed a UK-based club cricketer has been banned for 17.5 years for his multiple breaches of the Emirates Cricket Board’s (ECB) Anti-corruption code for players.

Javed was charged in September 2023 for alleged corrupt practices during the 2021 edition of the Abu Dhabi T10 league. Along with him their were a total of 7 more people including players and officials who were charged too. Their were a total of 5 charges levied against the cricketer.

Javed was provisionally barred in September last year when the charges were originally brought against him. However his continual lack of interest in addressing to the charges imposed against him led to the verdict. The cricketer also did not appeal against the charges, and the total inaction has prompted the committee to come up with this conclusion, which was made by Michael J Beloff KC, Chair of the Committee.

“Rizwan Javed has received a lengthy ban from cricket for his repeated and serious attempts to corrupt professional cricketers,” said Marshall.

“He has shown no remorse and no respect for the rules that are in place to protect our sport. The sanction imposed should send a strong message to other corrupters trying to target cricket at any level and demonstrates that any attempt to corrupt cricket will be strongly dealt with.”
