(Tennis news) In the opening round, Jannick Sinner played against veteran Richard Gasquet. In the first set, the youngster quickly took a 4-1 lead. At 5-2, he lost three set points on his opponent’s serve but saved the set by serving out the next game. In the second set, Jannick twice had a lead thanks to many break points, but he didn’t take advantage of them. In the end, it caught up with him and Jannick lost the set after getting broken while attempting to stay in the set at 6-5.
In the third set, however, Jannick Sinner quickly regrouped. Gasquet put up some effort, but the Italian quickly took a 5-1 advantage. Later, he ended the contest with a 6-3, 5-7, 6-2 victory.
Nick Kyrgios had been Sonego’s opponent, but the Australian withdrew, thus Sonego faced lucky loser Aslan Karatsev instead. The Italian won the opening set after twice breaking his opponent’s serve in the relatively simple first set. In order to tie the match, Aslan Karatsev won the second set. The third set began with three straight service breaks, with Sonego winning the third to take a 3-1 lead. In the third and final game of the match, he again broke the Russian’s serve to win 6-2, 3-6, 6-2.
Head-to-Head
Lorenzo Sonego is down 1-0 to Jannick Sinner after one match. At the 2023 Open Sud de France, he defeated them in straight sets.
Predictions
Both Jannick Sinner and Lorenzo Sonoge came back from a second-set setback to successfully conclude their first-round matches. The numbers of Sinner were superior to those of Sonego, with the former having a higher serve percentage and a higher ratio of winners to unforced mistakes.
Sonego’s record versus top-10 players leaves much to be desired, although Sinner is more reliable than his fellow Italian. In his 25 battles with them, he has only been able to triumph six times, albeit two of those wins have occurred this year.
If Sonego is performing at his peak, his serve can be comparable to Sinner’s. The latter’s capacity to maintain his intensity from beginning to end distinguishes him from the other two, who are both competent baseliners.
Sonego has a stronger resume and more experience on grass, but Sinner is a dynamic talent who has the ability to turn the tables on his rival. The younger Italian is predicted to win.Jannick Sinner to win in 3 sets (2-1)
