(Tennis news) With a 6-4, 6-7 (5), 6-2 victory against Yibing Wu of China, Rublev hopes to carry on with his promising grass court campaign. On the other hand, Hanfmann showed tenacity by defeating qualifier Louis Wessels in a match by the scores of 6-4, 3-6, and 6-3 to advance to the second round. Following a Round of 32 loss to World No. 48 Lorenzo Sonego in the French Open, Rublev arrives in Halle. On June 2, after a dramatic match, the Russian lost 7-5, 6-0, 3-6, 6-7 (5), 3-6. Meanwhile, Francisco Cerundolo defeated Hanfmann 6-3, 6-3, 6-4 on June 1 to end Hanfmann’s last tournament run at the French Open in the Round of 64.

Andrey Rublev has a record of six wins and four defeats in his previous ten games. Seven of these matches resulted in his winning the opening set. He played in 28.7 games on average per match, winning 15.6 total. His record shows a preference for straight-set wins (2-0), which make up 66.7% of his victories; he has not recorded any victories in three sets (2-1).

Hanfmann has a marginally higher winning percentage in his last ten games, with seven victories and three defeats. Hanfmann successfully defended the opening set seven times, matching Rublev. He played an average of 26.7 games during the course of these games, winning 13.7 of them total. His winning record exhibits a balance between wins in two sets (2-0) and three sets (2-1), both of which account for 42.9% of his triumphs.

Head-to-Head

In their two encounters, Rublev and Hanfmann have each prevailed once. In their first meeting, Rublev won 6-3, 6-3, 6-4 at the Australian Open in 2021. At the 2023 Internazionali BNL d’Italia – Rome, Hanfmann flipped the script in their second match, winning 7-6(5), 4-6, 6-3.

Predictions

Third seed Andrey Rublev and wildcard Yannick Hanfmann will square off in the second round of the Halle Open 2023, and it is guaranteed to be an exciting match. The two players, who are renowned for their strength at the baseline, will try to dominate the game with their imposing serves and potent shots.

With his ferocious forehand and unrelenting drive, Rublev, despite a recent loss at the French Open, is a deadly player when on. The less than ideal performance at Roland Garros, though, raises questions about his preparation for matches. Hanfmann, who put up a strong performance at the Internazionali BNL d’Italia – Rome, is the player who enters this match with the advantage. He will definitely feel more confident now that he defeated Rublev in their previous encounter. Both players have a quick, attacking style of play, and their face-off is exciting due to their deft court movement and potent shot-making.
