Jannick Sinner set to face Roman Safiullin at Wimbledon 2023

Eighth-seeded Jannik Sinner and Roman Safiullin will play in the quarterfinals, and this matchup is expected to exciting
Sinner

(Tennis news) Sinner has been in excellent form throughout the competition and is currently in his second consecutive Wimbledon quarterfinal. In a hard-fought match, he defeated Colombia’s Daniel Elahi Galan, who was ranked 54th, in the fourth round in straight sets (7-6 (4), 6-4, 6-3).

While the Italian avoided dropping a set, Galan put up a strong fight against him by acting out of character during a first-set tiebreak argument. Sinner, however, showed unyielding drive and overcame despite dropping an early break in the second set to win the match. As he solidly held onto the advantage in the match, the Italian’s graceful tennis shone through.

Roman Safiullin, on the other hand, made Wimbledon history by being the 12th player overall to reach the quarterfinals and the first newcomer to do so since Nick Kyrgios in 2014.

After falling behind quickly to the 26th seed Denis Shapovalov in the fourth round on Sunday, the Russian showed his grit. Despite dropping the opening set 3-6, Safiullin persevered and took advantage of Shapovalov’s errors to win the subsequent sets 6-3, 6-1, and 6-3. In the fourth set, Shapovalov’s effort was further hampered by an untimely injury, and Safiullin took full advantage to advance to the quarterfinals.

Head-to-Head

This encounter is Sinner and Safiullin’s second confrontation. In their matchup, Italy holds a 1-0 advantage. Their lone previous meeting took place at the ATP Cup in Sydney, when Sinner triumphed 7-6(6), 6-3 in straight sets.

Prediction

The world eagerly anticipates to see if Jannik Sinner can hold onto his lead over Roman Safiullin in this highly anticipated semi final at Wimbledon 2023. Although the former has a 1-0 advantage from their prior matchup in Sydney, this is their first encounter on grass, an important factor to take into account.

Safiullin is a novice at this level, but his performance in the competition shows that he is capable of competing there, making him a formidable foe.

The former Wimbledon runner-up Sinner, who excels on grass courts, has a solid baseline game and solid serving. Having experienced heated battles before, he might find the rapid turnaround difficult.

Safiullin, on the other hand, enters the match with a positive attitude after his successful run. His promise is shown by his tenacious effort in the face of difficulty in earlier rounds, particularly against Shapovalov.

He might find the rapid grass surface to his favour because of his propensity for flat, hard-hitting strokes.

Sinner prevailed in their previous encounter, but Safiullin will undoubtedly want revenge. Safiullin will need to take advantage of Sinner’s sporadic weaknesses while limiting his own unforced mistakes. He might very well turn the tables this time if he does, but it doesn’t seem plausible.

Jannick Sinner to win in 5 sets (3-2).
