Jaiswal’s Knock drives India on the opening day of the 2nd Test

(Cricket) Jaiswal’s wonderful knock of 179* helped India finish day 1 at a considerable score of 336/6. England team however would be very happy with how the day panned out, after losing the toss on a rather flat surface which had very little for the bowlers.

Jaiswal after a fifty in the first test, gave himself some more time in this game and scored a magnificent ton. Correcting his mistakes from the first game, he did not threw away his wicket this time around and was the glue around which the Indian batting revolved.

None of the other Indian batters managed to score big on a good surface. Rohit Sharma at the start seemed to be in a shell and eventually got out to delivery which was on his legs. handing a simple catch to Ollie Pope at leg slip. Gill at 3 played a brief little innings and was looking comfortable before he nicked one off playing away from his body to a delivery from Jimmy Anderson.

The poor run for Shreyas Iyer continued as he looked rather restless in his stay at the crease, before getting an under edge of a ball from Tom Hartley that did not bounce much and got caught behind. Rajat Patidar then, on his debut looked solid and played some impressive shots. He however was a bit unfortunate to be out with the ball trickling onto the stumps after some extra bounce that had him defend awkwardly.

Axar Patel and KS Bharat, on the other hand, squandered starts, each cutting the spinner to backward point towards the end of the day’s play, handing England a significant advantage despite Jaiswal’s marathon innings.

Brief Scores: India 336/6 (Yashasvi Jaiswal 179*; Rehan Ahmed 2-69)
