(Football news) Former Barcelona player Lionel Messi’s contract with Paris Saint-Germain is set to expire in June and the Argentine is linked with a move to Saudi Arabia, However, a return to the Catalan giants could now be on the cards with president Joan Laporta saying that the club are in a position to sign the 35 year old. Messi left Barcelona two years ago after 21 years at the club and hasn’t really settled at Paris Saint-Germain, being booed by his own fans during their 5-0 win over Ajaccio.

In an interview with Spanish broadcaster TV3, Laporta said “History backs us, the feelings are too strong, we have 400 million fans around the world too. He is a Paris St-Germain player and we have to wait until the end of the season, until it is over, and then we can talk more calmly about this. “With all due respect to Saudi Arabia, Barca is Barca, and it is home.” Laporta said he had an “affectionate conversation” with Messi following his victory at the Qatar World Cup last year.

Barcelona recently won their first La Liga title in four years after defeating rivals Espanyol 4-2 on Wednesday. During a late night Twitch stream following their victory, he reiterated that Barcelona would do “everything possible” to re-sign Messi and El Nacional is already claiming that the two parties have already reached a ‘total agreement’. However, other sources claim that Messi has accepted a €350 million ($381 million) per year proposal from Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia where he will be joined by former teammates Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba, which would make him the highest paid footballer in the world.
