IPL Match 19 – Jadeja’s all round brilliance helps CSK hammer RCB by 69 runs

The IPL Super Sunday got off to a cracking start as CSK's Ravindra Jadeja's all round heroics scripted RCB's first defeat of the season by 69 runs at the Wankhede stadium.

Chasing a mammoth target of 192, RCB  were off to a decent start. Devdutt Padikkal's 34 runs off 15-balls guided Royal Challengers to 65/2 at the end of power play. The Kohli led team had the momentum on their side and were confident because of their in-form and star studded batting line up featuring the likes of Glenn Maxwell and AB de Villiers. However, the next five overs turned the tides in the favour of the Dhoni led side as Sir Jadeja carried onto his brilliant day to start with the ball after a fiery inning with the bat.

Jadeja got rid of Glenn Maxwell (22 off 15) in his second over, impacted the run out of Dan Christian (4 off 9) and upon returning in his third over sent the dangerous De Villiers (4 off 9) packing, derailing RCB's chase from a power play score of 65/2 to 83/6 by the end of 11 overs as they could not manage to bounce back in the game and ended their innings at 122/9. Jadeja ended his sensational spell with the figures of 3/13.

Earlier, CSK after choosing to bat first started off well as their openers Faf du Plesis (50 runs off 41 balls) and Ruturaj Gaikwad (33 runs of 25 balls) shared a 74 run opening partnership.  However after Gaikwad's dismissal at the beginning of 10th over, RCB bowlers notched up a formidable comeback to slow down the proceedings for CSK as they managed to add only 43 runs with the loss of two additional wickets. Even with Jadeja's presence since the 14th over, CSK were languishing at 154/4 by the conclusion of the 19th over.

Mohammed Siraj and Harshal Patel had restricted CSK's scoring after Kyle Jamieson's 17-run over, leaking just 20 runs along with clinching a wicket in the death. And just when things looked in control of RCB, CSK shifted gears as Jadeja hammered 62 runs off 28 balls laced with 5 sixes, including one from a no-ball, along with a four to hit 37 runs off Harshal Patel (3/51), in the 20th over to take CSK's final score to 191/4.

With this win CSK moved on top of the points table whereas  RCB, dropped to second.
