Inter Milan will play Atlanta in Serie A

On Wednesday night, Champions League-chasing Atalanta BC will visit San Siro as title contenders Inter Milan want to increase their nine-point lead at the top of Serie A

(Football news) This is the first meeting between the two clubs since November of last year, when Inter Milan won 2-1 on the road thanks to goals from Lautaro Martinez and Hakan Calhanoglu. With their decisive 4-0 away victory against Lecce on Sunday, Inter Milan maintained their perfect record in 2024 and took the lead for a second Scudetto in four seasons.

The Nerazzurri defeated Lecce for the tenth time in a row at the beginning of the year thanks to goals from star striker Martinez, who netted his 24th and 25th goals of the season in all competitions. Davide Frattesi and Stefan de Vrij also found the net.

Not only have Simone Inzaghi’s men lost just one of their 25 Serie A matches this season, they have also scored the most (61) and conceded the fewest (12) goals in the division, and another success on Wednesday would see them move 12 points clear of second-placed Juventus with 13 games left to play.

Inter Milan will endeavour to win a seventh successive Serie A game at the start of a calendar year for the first time in their history when they lock horns with Atalanta, whom they have had plenty of joy against in recent seasons.

Indeed, the Nerazzurri have come out on top in each of their last four meetings with Atalanta in all tournaments, while they have not lost any of their previous 10 top-flight encounters with La Dea – their longest-ever unbeaten run against the Bergamo-based outfit.

Though they have a 10-game winning streak in 2024 across all competitions and have picked up 17 points from seven Serie A games, Atalanta cannot be fully written off on Wednesday.

After a 1-1 draw with AC Milan the previous weekend, La Dea is preparing for their second trip to San Siro in as many days. Teun Koopmeiners saved a point with an erroneously awarded penalty kick at the end of the first half, which negated Rafael Leao’s early goal.

Piero Gasperini’s team is in the same spot after 25 games this season, having finished fifth in Serie A last season, despite being just two points behind surprise winners Bologna in fourth place.
