(Football News) Inter Milan won the 2nd leg of the Champions League semi final against AC Milan 1-0. The Nerazzurri were always favorites to win after a 2-0 win in the away leg. Simone Inzaghi retained the same line-up as the 1st leg as Romelu Lukaku continued on the bench. Edin Dzeko and Lautaro Martinez started up front as they have done in the majority of big games. AC Milan on the other hand welcomed Rafael Leao back into the line-up while Junior Messias also started the game. Ismael Bennacer was unavailable due to injury while Alexis Saelemaekers was on the bench. Malick Thiaw partnered Fikayo Tomori as Simon Kjaer dropped to the bench.

The game was pretty cagey throughout the 90 minutes. Inter were solid defensively and Milan didn’t create enough good chances. Brahim Diaz had a very good opportunity to score in the 11th minute but his tame shot was easily saved by Andre Onana. In the 37th minute Rafael Leao created an opportunity by driving into the box but he pulled his shot wide of the goal. Two minutes later Mike Maignan made a great save from a set piece to keep Milan in the tie. In the 73rd minute substitute Romelu Lukaku set up Lautaro Martinez who scored a goal to seal Inter’s place in the final.

AC Milan will be very disappointed with their performance across two legs but it is still a massive step for them to be in a final after 16 years. They now have to give everything to qualify for next year’s UCL. Inter have done it in exquisite style that too against their arch rivals. No matter what happens in the other semi final, Inter will be the underdogs. In a one off final they will definitely fancy their chances against any team. They still have to play well in the remaining three league games to qualify for the Champions League next season.
