Cricket News: India's pace quadrant knocked over the English batters on the first day to start the series in grand fashion. Indian captain Virat Kohli played a huge gamble by dropping Ravichandran Ashwin to accommodate four quick bowlers at the Trent Bridge.

The decision has proved to be fruitful so far as India managed to bowl out the hosts for just 183 runs. Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Mohammed Shami and Shardul Thakur all picked up wickets at regular intervals to dismantle England's innings.

Indian bowlers gave a below-par performance in the WTC final against New Zealand. They managed to bounce back in this game and clearly showcased a change in tactic by bowling a lot more deliveries near the good length area. India go into day two trailing by 162 runs with 10 wickets in hand. India's batting is very deep with Ravindra Jadeja and Shardul Thakur coming in at number 7 and 8 respectively. Virat Kohli will be hoping to get a heavy first-innings lead and increase the possibility of knocking over England in the third innings itself.

Jasprit Bumrah was under a lot of scrutiny after failing to pick a wicket against New Zealand in the WTC final. The seamer silenced all critics with a remarkable bowling performance. The Gujarat bowler got Rory Burns and Jos Buttler out for duck before cleaning up the tail by dismissing Stuart Broad and James Anderson. Bumrah is going to be very key for India in this series and his performance on day 1 is a very positive indication of things to come.
