Indian players all set for HSBC BWF World Tour

 (Badminton News) Indian badminton players are set to compete at the 2023 Singapore Open, a prestigious event that is part of the HSBC BWF World Tour (Super 750). This tournament has been upgraded from a Super 500 to a Super 750 status, following last season’s success when PV Sindhu claimed the women’s singles title. Unfortunately, in the first round of the Singapore Open 2023, PV Sindhu faced a defeat against Japan’s Akane Yamaguchi with a score of 21-18, 19-21, 17-21.

On the men’s side, K. Srikanth, ranked 20th in the BWF Singles Men’s list, secured a victory against Thailand’s Kantaphon Wangcharoen, ranked 29th, with a score of 21-15, 21-19. Lakshya Sen will be facing the 7th-ranked Chou Tien Chen from Chinese Taipei, while Priyanshu Rajawat and HS Prannoy, the highest-ranked Indian player at No. 8, will have Japanese opponents in Kanta Tsuneyama and Kodai Naraoka respectively. In the women’s singles, Saina Nehwal will be taking on Ratchanok Intanon of Thailand, who is currently ranked 8th and was formerly ranked No. 1.

In the men’s doubles category, the world No. 4 pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty will be up against Akira Koga and Taichi Saito from Japan in the first round. MR Arjun and Dhruv Kapila will face Lucas Corvee and Ronan Labar from France. Representing India in the women’s doubles will be Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand, who will face Hong Kong’s Yeung Nga Ting and Yeung Pui Lam in an intense first-round match.
