(Cricket News) The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is planning to increase the salaries of the Indian domestic players. The Ajit Agarkar led selection committee has discussed the proposal and it is understood that committee has been tasked with making suggestions on how to implement this idea.
The idea is unlikely to be implemented immediately but the board is planning its way out to ensure that the domestic players who miss out on the IPL contracts stay motivated. The concerned members of the BCCI has reportedly shown interest on the proposal and are in unanimity that the fees for the domestic cricketers has to be doubled at least. Multiple plans are being taken into account in order to move forward with a decidion.
The BCCI currently pays INR 60,000 a day to a player who has played more than 40 Ranji games, INR 50,000 to those who have played between 21 and 40 games and INR 40,000 for those who’ve featured in 20 games, with the reserves earning INR 30,000, INR 25,000 and INR 20,000 in the respective categories. With this system a senior player could earn upto only 25 lakhs in a season if his team reaches the final, while the other players are in the 15-20 Lakhs bracket.
BCCI now is planning to increase the salary range, so that the domestic players should be in position to earn between INR 75 lakh to INR 1 crore annually if he has played 10 Ranji Trophy games. Along with the red-ball event, the players will also earn from the other two white-ball formats.
Their are plans to execute the idea from the next season onwards. The step is being taken in order to encourage the domestic players and also to state the importance of such domestic competitions in the national circuit. The idea is also in line with the BCCI target of encouraging red ball cricket. It may be recalled that the BCCI secretary Jay Shah announced higher match fees for those playing Test matches.
