(Cricket News) The Indian women’s cricket team is gearing up for a one-day series against Australia, a crucial part of their preparation for the 50-over World Cup scheduled in 2025.

While Test cricket has seen the team dominating against England and Australia in the past fortnight, the focus now shifts to the one-day format. The team, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, draws inspiration from their recent achievements as they enter the first of three one-dayers at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium.

Historically, India has struggled against Australia in ODIs, winning only 10 of the 50 matches, with Australia victorious in 40, including 17 out of 21 in India. Despite the daunting record, the new head coach, Amol Muzumdar, is optimistic that the positive atmosphere within the team will provide a boost. The squad includes newcomers Saika Ishaque, Titas Sadhu, Shreyanka Patil, and Mannat Kashyap, along with the returning Richa Ghosh and Renuka Singh.

The ODIs, scheduled for December 30 and January 2 at the Wankhede Stadium, mark an opportunity for India to make strides against a formidable opponent. Muzumdar emphasizes the team’s focus on continuous improvement, acknowledging the challenge posed by Australia, the seven-time world champions.

Australia’s Beth Mooney acknowledges the insights gained from their men’s team’s recent successful World Cup campaign. The series is seen as crucial preparation for the upcoming ICC events in the subcontinent, with a focus on adapting quickly, especially in aspects like death bowling and batting. Mooney emphasizes the importance of learning and preparation as they face a different-looking Indian side in a bid to succeed in the challenging conditions of the subcontinent.
