(Cricket News) The Indian fans feel that they have just watched a replay of the 2023 Asia Cup final, as there are many similarities between yesterday’s match and the Asia Cup final. In the Asia Cup final, Sri Lanka were all out for 50 runs, and in yesterday’s match, Sri Lanka were all out for 55 runs. With this humiliating loss, Sri Lanka is almost out of the World Cup, while India has qualified for the semi finals as they remain undefeated.

Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bowl first, and this was a questionable decision taken by the Sri Lankan skipper, as the teams that have batted first have an exceptional record of batting first at the Wankhede Stadium.

Rohit Sharma was dismissed in the second delivery of the innings, but that did not send a negative message to the batsman as they played fearless and attacking cricket throughout. Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, and Shreyas Iyer missed their well deserved centuries as they got out for 92, 88, and 82, respectively. A handy knock of 35 by Ravindra Jadeja propelled India to a score of 357-8 in 50 overs, their highest total in this World Cup so far.

End of first innings: India 357-8; Shubman Gill 92 (92); Virat Kohli 88 (94); Dilshan Madushanka 10-80-0-5; Dushmanta Chameera 10-71-2-1.

Sri Lanka had a disastrous start to their innings as they lost a wicket in the very first ball of the innings. In the next over, two wickets fell, and Sri Lanka was 2-3. This would have given bad memories to Sri Lankan fans who were watching this match. In the 9th over, Mohammad Shami comes to the attack, and he picks up two wickets in one over. Sri Lanka were 14-6 after the first powerplay.

Mohammad Shami cleans up the tail as he picks up a five wicket haul. Sri Lanka was all out for 55, and this was the lowest total by a full member team in an ODI World Cup.

End of second innings: Sri Lanka 55; Kasun Rajitha 14 (17); Angelo Maheesh Theekshana 12 (23); Mohammad Shami 5-18-1-5; Mohammad Siraj 7-16-2-3.
