CSA confirms Bangladesh’s tour after security assessment

The two-match Test series between South Africa and Bangladesh will take place as planned; the tour was approved by the CSA after its specialists evaluated the security. The dates of the first Test are set for October 21–25 in Dhaka and October 29–November 2 in Chattogram.

According to a statement released by the CSA on Monday, the tour was approved following “an in-loco inspection” by the board’s operations manager, team security manager, safety and security consultant, and South African Cricketers’ Association representative. These individuals visited Bangladesh last week and submitted their recommendations to the board.

The anti-government riots in Bangladesh in July and August, which resulted in the overthrow of Sheikh Hasina’s administration and the subsequent relocation of the women’s T20 World Cup to the United Arab Emirates, were the source of South Africa’s concerns regarding the security situation in that nation.

Earlier this month, sources for CSA had reported that they had been informed that the situation in Bangladesh had “settled,” but that the tour would not go if any hazards were found during the security inspections.

In the current World Test Championship cycle, South Africa has just six Test matches remaining. After six games played, they have two wins, three losses, and one draw. Currently ranked sixth in the standings, they will need to win five of their remaining games to have a chance to get to the Lord’s final the following year. Because CSA prioritized the SA20’s introduction, their domestic T20 franchise competition, and cost-cutting, all six of their series in this cycle have been reduced to two Tests.

The most recent Test series between South Africa and Bangladesh took place in South Africa in March and April of 2022. To play Ireland, South Africa’s white-ball teams are currently in the United Arab Emirates.
