India keep momentum going with a comfortable win over Netherlands

(Cricket news) India defeated Netherlands by 56 in their 2nd game of the T20 World Cup. After the incredible win against Pakistan, it was important for the Men in Blue to stay focused and get the job done. India went into the game unchanged as Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bat first. The decision was little surprising as India could've easily chosen to rest one of their quick bowlers as Yuzvendra Chahal and Harshal Patel were waiting on the bench as was Rishabh Pant who could've come in for Hardik Pandya. It also showed that India were not taking things lightly and wanted to play their best side.

Batting first India couldn't get off to a good start thanks to some really tight bowling by the Dutch team. KL Rahul was given out LBW and chose not to review it which turned out to be a mistake as the hawkeye showed that the ball was comfortably missing the leg stump. Rohit Sharma scored 53 off 39 balls hitting 4 fours and 3 sixes. He went past Yuvraj Singh to become the Indian with the most sixes in the T20 World Cup. The innings had quite a few mistimed shots and it wasn't smooth but it was still important.

Virat Kohli followed up his masterclass against Pakistan with a fine half century. The former Indian skipper scored an unbeaten 62 off 44 balls in an innings that included 3 fours and 2 sixes. After scoring back to back fifties, he became the 2nd highest run scorer in T20 World Cup history with Mahela Jayawardene only 27 runs ahead. Suryakumar Yadav also scored an unbeaten 51 off just 29 balls hitting 7 boundaries and a maximum. India ended the innings at 179/2 as Netherlands did well towards the end to pull things back.

Netherlands never looked like chasing down 180 runs as they ended up 56 runs short. Arshdeep Singh, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Axar Patel and Ravichandran Ashwin picked up 2 wickets each while Mohammed Shami got a scalp. The win takes India to the top of the Group 2 table with 4 points and a +1.425 NRR. The men in blue could book their place for the semis with a win in their next game against South Africa. Netherlands are now rock bottom of the table as they are still searching for their 1st win in the Super 12s.
